Novelty Competition Formats

4 Ball Best Ball

  • Draw partners and each pair becomes a Team.
  • Add the two players' handicaps and divide by 4 to calculate Team handicap.
  • Best gross score for each hole is recorded as the Team score.
  • Deduct Team handicap from total gross score.
  • Lowest net Team score will win.
  • In the event that there are odd numbers of players and we have some groups of 3, the low handicapper in the group partners both of the other players.
  •

    Flag

  • Round UP your playing handicap to the nearest number divisible by 3 (e.g. 8 = 9, 10 = 12, 16 = 18 etc.).
  • Calculate 2/3 of the adjusted number (e.g. 9 = 6, 12 = 8, 15 = 10, 21 = 14 etc.).
  • Add the result to the par for the course (e.g. 71 + 6 = 77, 72 + 14 = 86 etc.).
  • The result is the number of shots you are allocated for the competition.
  • The first group carries the flag and the last player to run out of shots writes their name on the flag and places the flag where his/her last shot came to rest. (if the last shot is in the rough, the player shall place the flag on the edge of the fairway in line with where the ball came to rest).
  • Any player who still has shots left when they reach the flag picks it up and carries it until he/she runs out of shots then writes their name on it and places it where their last shot came to rest.
  • If any player has shots left after having completed the 18th hole, he/she shall place the flag in the hole and write down how many shots they have left (e.g. if, you have been allocated 85 shots and complete the 18 holes in 83 shots, write your name and “2 shots left” on the flag).
  • The player who places the flag the furthest distance from the first tee or who has the most shots left at the completion of the round shall be declared the winner.
  •

    Texas Scramble

  • Is a variation of Ambrose where the best shot is selected and each team member plays their next shot from that point.
  • However, you must select at least 4 tee shots (if a team of 4) or 5 tee shots (if a team of 3) from each team member.
  • For a team of 4, all handicaps are added and divided by 8, if a team of 3 handicaps are added and divided by 6.
  •

    Divorced Stableford

  • Played in teams of 2.
  • Normal Stableford score for each team member however, score for each hole are multiplied together. For example 1x2=2, 1x3=3, 2x2=4, 2x3=6, 3x3=9, but 0x3=0, 0x4=0, so each team member must score points on each hole a wiped hole will result in a 0 score no matter what your partner scores.
  •

    Par Bisque

  • In this game, the competitor is allowed to choose whether or not they will allocate any shots to the hole.
  • Time to choose is only between leaving the green and teeing off the next tee.
  • The competitor must mark on the card how many shots are to be used before starting the hole.
  • Competitor may take as many or as few shots as he/she wishes as long as he/she does not complete the 18th with shots remaining.
  • Once the handicap is used up, no more shots can be allocated.
  •

    Canadian Foursomes

  • Played in teams of 2.
  • Each team member tees up and the best tee shot is selected, then players play alternate shots until the ball is holed.
  • Handicaps are added and divided by 2.
  •

    Swordsie's Surprise

  • Every player puts $5 into the pot.
  • Swordsie makes up some random rules and wins the money.
  • Surprise!!!
