In partnership with the Gold Coast Junior Chamber of Commerce, a fun and relaxing night of networking was held on Thursday 17th August 2023 at the feel-good venue, Burleigh Barrels.

An insightful breakfast was held at Currumbin RSL on Thursday 27 July 2023, with City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate as our key speaker, who provided an overview of the final City of Gold Coast budget for 2023-2024, and how it is proposed to affect Southern Gold Coast businesses.

An awesome night of networking was held at Little Cooly, with the opportunity provided to hear from a guest speaker from Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation (NRRC) on flood recovery and rebuild program of works and opportunities available for local businesses to participate and support Northern NSW businesses and workforce.

To celebrate Queensland Small Business Month, breakfast was held at Coolangatta Surf Club on Thursday 11th May, with speakers Dominique Lamb (Queensland Small Business Commissioner) and Dean Gould (Chief Marketing Officer, Southern Cross University) sharing with us their unique insights and recognising the importance of small business operators to the Gold Coast economy.

An inspiring breakfast was held at Currumbin RSL, with speaker Michael Humphreys (President of the Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Sub Branch) highlighting the activities that Currumbin RSL has planned on and in the lead up to ANZAC Day 2023, as well as the many services provided through its Veteran Support Centre.

This was a great opportunity to wine down and network at Tugun’s exciting new wine bar, Le Blanc’s. Founded by Gavin White, owner of neighbouring venue “Backbone Bar and Kitchen”, Le Blancs promotes itself as an upmarket but laid back watering hole.

A great breakfast was had at Currumbin Wildlife as we heard from the leader of the Opposition Mr David Crisafulli, and our local member Laura Gerber about the key issues facing our local community & economy.

We enjoyed a morning by the sea at everyone’s favourite local venue, Palm Beach Surf Club.

We farewelled the year that was and enjoyed some early Christmas Cheer!

We heard from the Honourable Meaghan Scanlon, State Minister for the Environment & the Great Barrier Reef * Minister for Science & Youth Affairs.

Held our 2022 AGM on Thursday 25th August at the Currumbin RSL with a presentation from the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary as they celebrate an amazing 75 years of being open to the public.

Great opportunity networking and rewarding the team at a relaxed and informal evening at Tallebudgera SLSC.

A wonderful breakfast event was held at the iconic Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on Thursday July 14. We heard from Tim Baker, the new CEO of the City of Gold Coast, with an introduction by Mayor Tom Tate. Tim providing an overview of his first 5 months in the new role.

A positive and engaging morning at the Coolangatta Surf Club with guest speaker Heidi Cooper, CEO of Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) talking about sustainable business growth & making the most of opportunities.

What better way to kickstart your Friday than to Network and Connect with professionals from across the Southern Gold Coast on the top Deck of Vikings SLSC, checked out the spectacular 180 degree views of Currumbin and enjoyed a free coffee on us.

Great evening of casual networking at Burleigh Brewing with a brief address from Peta (co-founder) followed by a tour of their brewery.

Great morning at Currumbin RSL where we learn about all the exciting developments taking place at GC Airport as well as the newly launched Gold Coast Business (GCB) Portal.

A great turn out for the first event of 2022 at Rydges Gold Coast Airport as we heard from three industry experts on what lies ahead for one of the most important industries on the Southern Gold Coast.

We farewelled the year that was and enjoyed some early Christmas Cheer at our final event for 2021 at the Salty Fox rooftop bar located on the 7th Floor at the spectacular Rydges GC Airport.

A delicious breakfast was had at this stunning new hotel as we heard from The Honourable Di Farmer MP, the Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development.

A delicious breakfast in glorious Coolangatta was had, as we heard from Gold Coast Titans CEO Steve Mitchell, on lessons learned about resilience in the world of elite sport & how they translate into lessons for business in these trying times. We also heard from Anthony Mitchell Director of the Clontarf Foundation.

There was a formal element to the morning as the Chamber held its annual AGM and we also had a couple of special guest speakers with insightful presentations on topics relevant to all Businesses and were joined by Karen Andrews MP.

This was a great opportunity to network and reward the team at a relaxed and informal evening in a great location, Balter Brewery, a modern industrial space located in the heart of Currumbin.

Mayor Tom Tate briefed us on the City of Gold Coast budget and we also heard from Cr Gail O’Neill on the impact of the budget in Division 14 and some exciting project updates.

With special guest speakers including Patricia O’Callaghan, CEO Destination Gold Coast, Jan McCormick, CEO Major Events Gold Coast and City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.

Andrew Wheeler shared his valuable insights into the vision for the South Coast Region on the M1 Program, Coomera Connector and works across the region for 2021. He also took the time to share the journey that was for 2020, and how this has shaped works going forward for TMR and Industry colleagues.

Great evening to farewell the year that was and welcome some Christmas Cheer in readiness for a great LIFT OFF to 2021 !

Great evening had by all at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the Gold Coasts most iconic locations, and we helped raise $2,000 for the Wildlife Hospital.

Insightful presentations on the new City Of Gold Coast eMarketplace vendor procurement system, initiatives from CCIQ that are helping businesses during these challenging times, followed by the AGM and welcoming the new board.

Having John Witheriff as our guest speaker represented an invaluable opportunity to learn more about how the G:link Light Rail is benefiting our growing city and what it means for our region as it makes its way south to Burleigh Heads.

SGC had a sold out event for November's breakfast with guest speaker's Marion & Carl who presented the new projects and developments that will shape the Gold Coast Airport over the coming years.

SGC Members and Guests enjoyed a relaxed and informal evening at Currumbin Vikings Surf Club for our October “Business after Hours” event on Thursday 10th October 2019.

We had a great turn out for the SGC Annual General Meeting held on 19 September at Currumbin RSL. Thank you to Anne Stovin, CEO Currumbin RSL for her special presentation during the event.

We had a huge turn out at this month's SGC breakfast, held at Coolangatta Surf Club, to discuss the SandTunes event coming to Coolangatta Beach Sat 30th Nov & Sun 1st Dec.

Our friends at Timezone Coolangatta provided the setting for our June After Dark event, welcoming around 75 members and guests for a night of games, drinks and food.

We had a fantastic turn out at this month's SGC breakfast with guest speakers Geoff Hogg from The Star Entertainment Group, and Chris Haigh from Mercury IT.

We all had a great night at the Kirra Beach Hotel. The food they put on was excellent, we can't thank them all enough, including Greg, Julie, Drew, Peggy and the team there for helping us put together what we hope will be the first of many joint events.

Our first breakfast of the new year was held at John Flynn Private Hospital where Karen Andrews outlined her vision for local small business.

To celebrate the end of 2018, SGC held a Gala dinner event at Currumin RSL with music provided by local entertainers Mark Watson & Emma Lancaster.

We enjoyed a sumptuous buffet style breakfast prepared by the Hospitality Faculty & Students, while Chris Capra outlined his vision for how businesses and schools can work together to make a better community.

We were fortunate to be able to bring an update on the progress of the Coolangatta / Kirra Core Business Masterplan project by Patrick Duigan, a City Place Making Officer from the City of Gold Coast, including site analysis completed and feedback from stakeholders who have attended recent workshops, as well as having Councillor (Cr) Gail O’Neill assist in the running of the morning breakfast.

The Chamber was pleased to welcome Karen Andrews MP, Parliamentary Secretary and Federal Member for McPherson as our August speaker. Karen addressed the meeting and discussed the needs of small business, NBN and the recent announcement that areas of the electorate would now be getting NBN in the next scheduled roll out. She also spoke about the need to upskill our school leavers, and the place that science and innovation has in the future of the Gold Coast and Australia.

Our July speaker was Charles Martin, Charles joined Gold Coast Airport in April 2008 as General Manager Commercial after a 26 year career with Qantas Airways.

In June we welcomed two great speakers from the Qld Police. Acting Inspector Chris Adhern spoke to us about his career and his current role as Senior Sergeant, Officer in Charge of Palm Beach Police Division, where he is in command of 40 officers and responsible for the delivery of policing services to a population of 50,000 people across a 108 sq kilometre area. Then we heard from Polair with Senior Constable Robert Finlay. Robert told us how the QLD Polair arm was established.

On Thursday 7 May at Currumbin RSL we were able to offer a delicious breakfast and a presentation on the vital role Social Media should have in the armoury of businesses of all shapes and sizes in the 21st century. Our speaker was Chris Hogan, Founder and CEO of MeMedia. Chris was able to show us all of the very NOW parts of social media, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google Plus, and explain how they can add value to our businesses.

May 2014's speaker was Phillip Di Bella, award winning entrepreneur known for his drive, passion and spirit of excellence.

Over 140 people turned out at the Currumbin RSL Thursday the 29th of November 2013 for a great night in celebration of outstanding businesses and individuals. State Minister Jann Stuckey MP was in attendance, and addressed the attendees.

Traditionally our largest event of the year and has become a more celebratory red carpet gala including a guest MC and entertainment.

Travis Latter from Iminco talked about how they engage major mining companies and assist Gold Coast businesses to supply goods and services to the mining and resource sectors.

Hon. Jann Stuckey MP, Member for Currumbin, Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business & the Commonwealth Games provided us an update of her portfolios and progression to date.
