Currumbin RSL ANZAC Day 2021 Update

As you may have heard with the recent announcements that attendance restrictions and additional requirements will be minimised based on the current environment for ANZAC Day 2021.

With this said, traditionally up to 20,000 people attend the Currumbin RSL Dawn Service at Elephant Rock, which requires a large amount of infrastructure and planning for safety and presentation. Even with these relaxations, unfortunately it is not something the team can pull together within 2 months as it generally takes 6 months of preparation. Veteran and community safety is our priority.

Rest assured they are still holding a Dawn Service and mid-morning service at the Currumbin RSL cenotaph and many other exciting events to commemorate ANZAC Day. This year they will look a little different and be spread across a whole week.

The week of activities includes the following, with more information to come on each event:

• 17th April 2021 Saturday - Poppy Installations and Lighting of Bridges and Buildings:We will be installing large poppy, a red poppy installation for remembrance at Elephant Rock, a purple poppy installation at the Animal Heroes Memorial at Dune Cafe in Palm Beach Parklands and a white poppy installation at Elephant Rock symbolising peace. The Currumbin RSL Women's Auxiliary, local schools and the community are hard at work knitting the poppies. If you would like to be involved head here: www.currumbinrsl.com.au/anzac-day/

They will also be lighting Thrower's Bridge in Currumbin in red with Lest We Forget installed. Currumbin RSL will also be lit in red. These installations will be in place for the week of ANZAC.

• 18th April 2021 Sunday - they will be hosting a new event the 'Walk of Remembrance' for those veterans who have lost their lives to suicide. The walk will commence at Kirra and finish at Currumbin RSL to bring attention to the plight of veterans and the importance of mental health and support. More details on this event and how to register to come soon.

• 25th April 2021 - ANZAC DAY
The Dawn service will be relocated to the Currumbin RSL cenotaph, with the Burial at Sea to proceed as normal down at Elephant Rock with the help of Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Club .

Due to capacity, Currumbin RSL Sub Branch members and Veterans will have priority to attend the dawn service and mid-morning service at Currumbin RSL. Please stay tuned on how to register. For the general public, they will be either broadcasting or live streaming the Dawn Service for your viewing.

They would also still like to encourage members of the public to join in on the Light Up The Dawn RSL QLD Campaign again this year if you are unable to make it to a service. We can confirm there will be a fly past being conducted.

Currumbin RSL Club operations on the day will be announced soon.
