Impressive line up to kick off a series of events for the year

The Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce kicks off the events calendar with a stellar line up of guest speakers including Laura Gerber MP, Alfred Slogrove and Professor Julie Jomeen for the first event on the 17th of February 2022.

The Road Ahead for the Education Industry event will invite three panelists to provide their expertise on what lies ahead for the one of the most important industries on the Southern Gold Coast - Education. 

The event will be held at Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel on the 17th of February from 7:00am - 8:30am

The panel includes:  

Professor Julie Jomeen PhD, MA, RM, RGN - Executive Dean and Professor of Midwifery, Faculty of Health, Southern Cross University

Professor Jomeen is a nurse and a midwife. Having worked clinically for 15 years, she entered higher education to firstly undertake a Masters in Health Research and then a PhD, leading her to a career in academia. Her expertise is in midwifery and reproductive health, with a key research focus on perinatal mental health and psychological health in childbearing women, publishing widely in the field. This has emerged from an ongoing programme of research, world recognised expertise in service development for PMH, assessment and screening, practitioner training and development.  Professor Jomeen also has expertise in measures development.  Her work has a strong focus on empowerment through collaborative service development work and pathways of care, which enable choice and decision making for women and practitioners.  Professor Jomeen has been in University leadership roles for over a decade and is passionate about supporting health students to success. 

Alfred Slogrove - Chief Executive Officer, Study Gold Coast

As an industry leader and a passionate Gold Coaster, he has accomplished State and National Awards for his leadership in the education and training sector. Recently Study Gold Coast was successful in advocating for the Gold Coast to become regional and advocated strongly to open the international borders to QLD early for students and working holiday makers.

Laura Gerber MP - State Member for Currumbin, Shadow Assistant Minister for Justice and Youth, Shadow Assistant Minister for the Night-time Economy and Cultural Development

Laura Gerber has been the Member for Currumbin since March 2020.

Mrs Gerber is the Shadow Assistant Minister for Justice and Youth and the Shadow Assistant Minister for the Night-time Economy and Cultural Development. She is also the Deputy Chair of the Legal Affairs and Safety Committee.

Prior to entering Parliament, Laura forged a successful career in the legal profession as a lawyer and barrister. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Southern Cross University.

Laura started her legal career at a local law firm in Coolangatta. She went on to become a Federal Prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and then a Disciplinary Prosecutor with the Office of the Health Ombudsman.
