Rydges Gold Coast Airport: Welcome to the Southern GC Family

The wraps are off! Rydges Gold Coast Airport has landed, right on the doorstep of our Gold Coast Airport terminal.

In February 2019, a sod-turning ceremony marked the announcement of a $50 million Rydges-branded hotel at Gold Coast Airport and in June 2019 all reports showed the project was on track to open in mid-2020. Bush fires and COVID-19 may have pushed the mid-2020 date by an inch, the first guests have finally checked in to this resort-themed hotel, which is a stone’s throw from Kirra Beach.

Rydges Gold Coast Airport General Manager Luke Harley said his team had enthusiastically welcomed the first guests to the hotel this week.

“The hotel is Gold Coast themed and thoughtfully designed to match our environment and lifestyle,” he said. “It is an airport hotel by location, but a leisure property by-product and guest experience.” Mr Harley said the hotel was uniquely positioned and would become a destination in its own right. “There is no airport hotel in Australia or the Pacific that has a 25-metre resort-style pool, an outstanding rooftop bar with uninterrupted ocean and runway views, a prime beachside position, and, of course, a terminal on its doorstep,” he said.

Queensland Airports Limited CEO Chris Mills said it was exciting to see the doors open, bringing many years of planning by the airport team to fruition. “An airport hotel has been part of our planning for several years, so there is a real sense of achievement in seeing the first guests check-in,” he said. “We are looking forward to the Queensland border opening to NSW and Victoria, allowing our passenger numbers to recover and delivering guests to the hotel.”
