What the 2017 Federal Budget means for local business operators

Karen Andrews brings her extensive experience in engineering, industrial relations and running her own business to her roles as Federal Member for McPherson and Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills.

Karen’s first priority is always to het local community and it was her desire to make a difference that led to her decision to stand as the LNP candidate in 2010. She was re-elected in 2013 and 2016.

Karen was one of only two women to graduate in Mechanical Engineering at QUT in 1983 and went on to work at power stations and petrochemical plants in regional Queensland and interstate. She then moved into the field of industrial relations running her own consultancy giving her a strong understanding of owning and managing a business.

She is a strong advocate for local businesses as the engine room of our economy.

Karen’s background in finding solutions to complex issues has suited her well in parliament. She was appointed Chair of the House of Representatives Joint Standing Committee on Public Works in 2013 and then Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry and Science in December 2014. Karen has been Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills since the 2016 federal election.

Karen is passionate about the southern Gold Coast community where she’s been a long term resident. She is married with three daughters.
