“How businesses and schools can work together to make a better community”

Chris Capra commenced his teaching career at Macgregor State School in 1995 with a Year 7 class of 32 students. After only nine months as a class teacher, Chris was promoted to Principal of Nebo State School at the age of 21. As the local Principal, he excelled as the town volunteer ambulance driver, touch football coach, Justice of the Peace, paper editor and swim instructor.

After Nebo Chris was promoted to Amamoor State School, followed by Port Douglas State School and then Chancellor State School. In 2006 Chris was appointed as the Foundation Principal of Kuranda District State College where he amalgamated two existing schools into a newly purpose built college. During this time (his first in a high school) Chris joined the local Chamber of Commerce with a view to utilising their strengths and networks to form meaningful educational partnerships to strengthen the business community – school links. It also helped that the Chamber meetings were held at the Bottom Pub overlooking the river at sunset.

After Kuranda Chris was promoted to the position of Foundation Principal of Norfolk Village State School at Ormeau where he was given $25 million and a blank canvas on which to build a school. Eight years and a school which grew to 1100 students later, he was asked to supervise the North Queensland District which included 37 schools which were spread over the geographic equivalent of Victoria. Deciding that North Queensland was too dry and hot he returned to Upper Coomera State College as an Executive Principal which he led through a priority review.

Chris was appointed Executive Principal to PBC in July 2017 and throughout his moves has been very patiently supported by an understanding wife and three children now of high school age.

A sumptuous buffet style breakfast will be prepared by the Hospitality Faculty & Students, so please join us for what promises to be a very informative morning as Chris outlines his vision for how businesses and schools can work together to make a better community.
